• You must be an undergraduate student currently enrolled at a foreign higher education institution;

• You must be officialy nominated by the International Office of your home university;

Applications must be submitted during the semester prior to the intended exchange period:

• Exchange in the 1st semester (February to June): Apply between August 17 and October 10.

•  Exchange in the 2nd semester (August to December): Apply between March 16 and May 8.

Exchange applications must be submitted online by the student's home institution using our official initial form.

After the initial nomination, the student will be contacted to fill out a second form and provide additional documents and information required for your exchange.

Once the application is processed and approved, you will receave a Acceptance Letter via email. 

You'll need to chosse subjects and set up a Study Plan/Learning Agreement. However, during the application phase, students are not yet enrolled in the courses, so it is not guaranteed that they will be admitted to the selected classes. The offer of the elective courses is defined between 1 and 2 months before the beginning of the semester (after the application period).

Before traveling, you must submit a document proving health insurance coverage for the entire exchange period.

Important: Any student who fails to complete all steps of the application process will be considered to have withdrawn, and we will be unable to process their exchange at USP.

1.  Learning Agreement (USP Draft) signed and stamped by the authority responsible for the exchange program at your home institution. You may consult available courses by clicking here (available only in Portuguese);

2.  Transcript of Records (of the current course) issued by the home university: versions in English and Spanish are accepted. Otherwise, the document must be submitted with a simple translation into Portuguese;

3.  Copy of the Passport (bio-date page): It must be valid for the entire duration of the exchange period at USP;

4.  Letter of nomination from the home university;

5.  Identity Photo in “.jpg” format (maximum file size: 50KB): A clear, front-facing digital photo;

6.  Health insurance: Insurance coverage is mandatory during the entire exchange period in Brazil. If the student is unable to obtain the insurance at the time of application, they must provide proof after the application period. In addition, international students are entitled to access Brazil’s public healthcare system in emergency situations.

Students who wish to be hosted in laboratories for a research period, project development, or an academic visit must apply as short-term exchange students. The required documents are:
1. Copy of the passport (bio-date page): It must be valid for the entire period of exchange at USP;;

2. Transcript of Records (of the current course) issued by the home university: versions in English or Spanish are accepted. Otherwise, it must be submitted with a simple translation into Portuguese; 

3. Letter of nomination from the home university;

4. Acceptance Letter from an IB Faculty Member;

5. Photo in “.jpg” format (maximum file size: 50KB): A clear, front-facing digital photo;

6. Health insurance: Insurance coverage is mandatory during the entire exchange period in Brazil. If the student is unable to obtain insurance at the time of application, they must provide proof after the application period. In addition, international students are entitled to access Brazil’s public healthcare system (SUS) in emergency situations.

Short-term exchange students under an institutional agreement will be assigned a USP identification number. Although a specific visa is not required for stays in Brazil of up to 90 days, we strongly recommend that all students obtain a student visa (Type IV).

• Entrance Exam (FUVEST)

To be admitted, candidates must pass USP’s official admission process, known as the vestibular (entrance exam). This exam is held annually, usually between November and January, and is conducted in Portuguese in Brazil. More information is available on the FUVEST website.

• Undergraduate Student Agreement Program (PEC-G)

PEC-G is a program created by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) and the Ministry of Education (MEC) to provide access to higher education in Brazil for students from countries with educational and cultural cooperation agreements with Brazil, particularly in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

Applications must be submitted through Brazilian Embassies or Consulates in the applicant’s home country. Students from countries outside the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries are required to present a Portuguese proficiency certificate (Celpe-Bras). For further information, please, contact the Brazilian Consulate or Embassy in your country.

• Facilities:
  During your exchange program, you will have access to USP facilities, such as  restaurants,  sport center, libraries, and more;
  
  

• Accommodation:
  Please note that USP does not provide housing for international students.  Students are responsible for finding their own private accommodation.
  
  

• Portuguese Course for Foreigners:

• Scholarships and Costs:
  USP is a public, tuition-free institution and admits international students, but it does not offer scholarships;
